My Most Memorable Time With Michael Jackson

I was only 6 years old, But I can still remember the day like it was yesterday.  It was October 1982, the morning of the wedding. There was a light, warm breeze blowing through the trees. The sun was rising brightly in the eastern desert sky. The red rock cliffs to the west of the yard were glowing red. The light smell of fall was in the air. The wedding being held later on that day was going to be perfect. It was also the day my little sister almost drowned. I remember sitting outside by the pool. The smell of chlorine was intoxicating, inviting anyone to jump in. It was warm, but not warm enough to swim. My little sister decided she wanted to go swimming and jumped in. I started screaming, “MOM! MOM! Misty jumped in the pool!” My mom came running from across the yard and like a gazelle, she jumped in, clothes and all. The next thing I knew, my mom was swimming to the other side of the pool with Misty in her arms, coughing and gagging. I remember my mom saying, “Why did you jump in the pool? You know you shouldn’t jump in the pool unless you have your arm floats on! The water is freezing; it took my breath away!”  I was sure glad my sister was ok.

After the whole incident with the swimming pool we went inside Linda’s house to get ready for the wedding, when the music started to play. I stopped what I was doing, and listened…… I remember thinking, “I love the way this sounds!” I ran from the kitchen, into the living room and stood there…..I can still remember hearing the creepy sounds of wolfs howling, the zombie’s moaning as they were dragging their leg behind them. The music had such power it grabbed me and pulled me in like no other song ever has. I was memorized by the sounds that were coming from the TV. The beat to that song was so catchy and the costumes were so life like even though I was only six years old, I was excited yet scared. All I could do was stare at the TV as I was trying to do the dance moves like they were doing on the TV; I was trying to do the sideways leg slide, but I kept tripping over my own feet. So instead of trying to learn the steps, I just danced the way I knew best. Bobbing up and down and swinging my head back and forth. I fell in love with Michael Jackson’s music that day and every day since then.
