comments towards them have become more noticeable and rude. I personally have experienced feelings of hatred towards these people that I don’t even know. Feelings towards Arabs and Muslims have changed significantly since 9/11. Mosques and Muslim-owned businesses have been vandalized and individual Muslims have been verbally abused, physically assaulted, and in some cases, murdered. Anti-Muslim and anti-Arab hate crimes continue to be at higher levels than before the September 11 attacks. For many Americans, the basis for the 2003 U.S. attack on Iraq remains something of a mystery. The reasons the Bush administration cited for going to war was involved in the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Some people say that we had thoughts of going to Iraq before the attacks but no one really knows that full story. America has changed their way of thinking even since after September 11, 2001. Many people after the attacks were very angry and for the war but as time has gone on, many Americans are getting less for the war and violence. I believe that although September 11, 2001 was a horrible, terrifying day; that it also was a day that brought America together. Many Americans realized that day that we must come together as a country and create peace in every way that we can. Although going to war is not much of a “making peace” decision, as Americans we are standing beside our country and supporting our troops in everyway that we can, even though we may disagree. |
