After I got over the initial shock my sister, mom and I headed into town so they could get their haircut. The whole time we were at the barbershop, I sat in a chair eyes glued to the television watching the planes hit the towers over and over trying to decipher what had just happened. It frightened me and I wondered who could do such a terrible thing. I was joined shortly later by other people wanting to hear the latest news about the attacks and about the attack on the pentagon which I had no clue about. I had only heard about the twin towers attacks and had no clue about the attack on the pentagon and the plane that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. |

The next day when I returned to school the attacks were all that was being talked about. The teachers pretty much gave up on teaching and just tried to answer any questions we had about the attacks. The true trauma of the events that happened the previous day had not sunk in to most of the kids in class yet, so the most common question asked was just what happened. My question for the teachers was why would any body want to do such a thing and they just could not give me an answer. As the day went on, the teachers constantly tried to get our minds off subject by extending our recess and letting us watch movies. These tactics worked till we arrived home and all that was on television was pictures of the towers and interviews with survivors. |

As a kid those events were quite hard to comprehend. For a few nights it was hard to sleep. I just kept thinking if it happened there it could happen any where. I also began to wonder how this was going to affect my life from then on out. It has been almost nine years since those tragic events took place and to this day I can remember nearly every detail about that day. It was one of the most influential days not only in my life, but the life of all Americans. The events on September 9th, 2001 brought out a huge feeling of patriotism that I still have today. I am truly proud to be an American and although those events were immensely tragic I believe they helped to bring the country closer together and strengthen the United States of America. |
