We had to learn how to also “flush” his port calf, and I had to learn how to give my son shots that would help his counts go back up. Every day that I had to give him a shot I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders, I hated doing it. Our whole world had been turned upside down. I was so angry that God even allowed these horrible things to happen to a child, and angry that I couldn’t take all the pain and suffering away from him. We suffered through three more rounds of Chemo. Seth had to have his CT scans done after to see if it was working on the Neroblastoma. When we got his results it was the surprise of our life. All the tumors that were all over his body where gone, the mass that was in his chest had shrunk and the cancer was dead. It was the biggest relief to hear the wonderful news. It was a miracle; all our prayers had been answered. He was supposed to have eight rounds of chemo and only needed four. They were going to open his chest and remove the mass and now they didn’t need too. There was a Family that got admitted to Kosair about the same time my son did. Their son was twelve years old. He had been on the baseball field playing ball and collapsed on the field. It turned out he had Leukemia. It is devastating to think that your child can seem healthy one day and then the next you find out that, that is not the case at all. When we left that poor boy had been in there for four months straight, and they had no idea when he would get to leave. There are so many children and families that I have meet over the years have had these horrible diseases invade their lives; I pray for them I will never forget them. My son is 9 years old now. For years he has been under his height and way under his weight. This year his height has shot up some and he doesn’t have to have the slim paints anymore. Maybe that doesn’t seem like a big deal to you but for me it’s amazing. There were so many risks and possible side effects to all the meds they pumped in him; it just warms my heart to see him so healthy now. He only has to go back to his Oncologists every two years now, which is amazing because that means that feel very confident that his cancer is gone for good. This whole experience showed me how precious life is, it is a gift and can be taken from us at any moment. Live your life, like today could be your last day. Tell the people in your life how much you love them. Enjoy every moment! It also opened my eyes to all that is going on in the world to help fight childhood cancer. There is so much research going on to find treatments to fight these diseases, unfortunately there are some very serious side effects that can come with these treatments. I have also had my eyes open to how many other lives have been effected by childhood cancer.
