Childhood cancer has had an effect on the world in many of ways. The general public is now more aware of the different kinds of cancers. There are more known warning signs, more research going on to continue to find cures and new treatments. Unfortunately, along with these life saving cures, research also indicates that the treatments can cause some very serious side effects. Even if the children with cancer win their fight with cancer there are some serious consequences that can happen to the child due to the chemo or radiation. Research needs to continue to focus on finding safe cures and reduce the resulting risks of health problems. I read an article in Childhood Cancer Survivorship and it was talking about the fact that there is a real hope to the future of finding a cure for every child with cancer. It proves the numbers for survivors have really increased over the past thirty years. There are some very serious side effects with the treatments for cancer that can possibly effect the child cancer survivor even after they have won their fight with cancer, now they have to win the fight from the treatments that killed their disease. We need to continue our research until we come up with treatments that can cure our kids without all the dangerous side effects. The book Childhood Cancer Survivorship tells us about some of those side effects.
