More of My Story

My eyes remained glued to the television in distress as the news reporter showed more devastating footage of damages the destructive earthquake did to the people and land of Haiti. It’s already bad enough as Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, moreover; now the country is in even worst shape because of the earthquake and the many lives that were deducted from the population.

Days later after the shocking event, my mom, a Sergeant First Class at Fort Knox, informed me that more than likely she would be leaving for Haiti with her unit to assist with logistics. Initially, I grew angry because it was just in August when she returned from her fourteen and a half month tour in Iraq. When she was gone I felt so lonely and neglected. I had no family here and I was living my senior of high school in depression. Eventually I became... sad because I knew I would be lonely for the few months she would be gone.
