Immediately, governments and people started conducting methods to assist the people of Haiti with medical attention, food, and water. The United States has donated millions of dollars in aid to the people of Haiti. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is an independent agency that provides economic, development and humanitarian assistance around the world in support of the foreign policy goals of the United States. The U.S. and international community’s challenge is to stay engaged with in Haiti to help transform the country into a more established, flourishing and self-governing nation, however, many Americans believe the United States is giving away money the American people don’t have and should concentrate on the financial crisis that is going on in the United Stated.
