Besides exercise another factor that can affect your health and stress level is your job or sometimes lack of job. It’s not only is important that you are employed but that you feel secure in your employment and enjoy your place of work. Recent studies have found that if you don’t have all three of these work balances than your health and life span can be affected. A study was preformed by William Gallo, who is the associate director of research at Hunters College for the Brookdale Center for healthy aging and longevity, discovered that employees are twice as likely to have a heart attach or get a heart disease when they don’t properly vent about what they feel is unfair work treatment. He states “We spend 8, 10, 12 hours a day at work, that may be more important than whether your on the zone diet.” (qtd. 50) Gallo seems to be suggesting that working in a healthy and happy work environment is more vital to a healthy and long life than having the right diet or even exercise. The Whitehall study showed that loosing your job does much more damage to you than just hurting your pocketbook, because you socially disconnected and not feeling as needed as you once did.
