While there are many factors that can cause stress excessive worrying or anxiety is one of them. Some people have health anxiety issues because they are overly concerned about the state of their health. Anxiety is defined in Understanding Health Anxiety as “when you think something bad is going to happen, but you are uncertain that it will” (6), while fear is being faced with the problem. It explains how anxiety affects our minds and behavior. It changes the bodily functions because it’s preparing the body for tragedy to strike. Some of the bodily functions that anxiety can change are the muscles will tense up , heart rate increases, breathing becomes increasingly harder, sweating, and having an unsettled stomach. Studies have shown that depression is no longer the most common mental health problem in North America but that anxiety disorders have now taken that title. (Taylor, and Asmundson 6-8)
