Exercise

Unlike the skepticism about the connection to positive thinking and health nobody can deny that exercise is good for one’s body, but it is also good for your metal health scientists are now saying. They have found evidence to connect health and positive emotions together with exercise through the study of neurophysiologic. In order to find out what causes “runners high” and more positive psychological feelings, McCubbins team of scientist wanted to examine substances in the brain called beta-endorphins. Because it’s hard to observe these substances they gave the volunteers different drugs known to affect beta-endorphins some would elevate the effects while others block the response known as antagonist. Half the randomly selected volunteers were trained and the other half were not. Scientist gave certain participants in both groups an opioid antagonist (blocks biological response), to measure the volunteers’ heart rate and blood pressure under stress, and gave others an agonist (helps elevate responses). To examine their stress they were given math quizzes that had to be completed in a certain amount of time. The group that exercised was noticeably less stressed during the test; while
