Life as a single mom

There are many communities that I could say that I belong to, but the one that affects almost every aspect of my life is being a Single Mom in America. There are many issues that significantly impact single Moms in America. Because fathers that are not involved in the raising of their children, it adds a lot of stress to a mother. The financial struggles, the emotional, mental, and physical stress of raising a child  on your own can be very overwhelming. Many single mothers feel very guilty because their child is growing up without a father, so many moms try to make up for that by buying their kids things or giving in to their kids wants. Another issue is the number of moms who do not get to finish college because of the lack of support, rather it be lack of money, child care, or just juggling the day to day things on their own. Such as getting the kids ready for school, providing for the family, taking care of the home, preparing  meals, helping her kids with their homework, and if she is in school herself she still has her homework to do also. With everything a single mom has to do it doesn’t leave much time for herself.

Since the beginning of time everywhere Woman have also been left at home to raise their children while the Men went off to War or to hunt for the Family, but in those cases if the Men Survived the War came back or when they got done hunting returned to their Family.  Now days it seems that family values are not as they use to be.  So men can go “play house” for a little while and then when they get bored or are tired of putting work into the relationship or family they just walk away from all responsibilities, leaving the mom to pick up the pieces.  According the Census Bureau in 2005 there were approximately 2,230,000 marriages in 2005 -- down from 2,279,000 the previous year, despite a total population increase of 2.9 million over the same period. (Census Bureau 2005)

Throughout the past – years we have seen an increase in the number of single mothers who are raising their children on their own. Sex before marriage is so common and accepted these days that could be the reason why there are so many children being born to single moms these days. Some cases the Fathers are involved in their children’s lives but too many are rarely there or not involved at all. Not only is that not fair the Mothers that are left to raise the children all on their own but most of all it’s not fair to the children. Men have choices before they even have children and if the choices they make result in a child then they need to, and should want to step up to the plate and be a man take responsibility, be involved in that child’s life. So why is it so many fathers just walking away from their responsibilities? Because, it is so damn easy for them to walk away. They are selfish, lazy, cowards, obviously immature, and they are only thinking about their selves.  Moms don’t want to make their kids fathers spend  time with his kids, spending time with their kid is something fathers should want to do.
