Beginning in the 1970’s hip-hop has definitely grown to become the most favored of music genres among this generation. Today it is common for artists to accommodate hip-hop beats into their songs usually making them more popular. Not only have we seen this music rise to become the most popular among our music charts, we’ve also noticed the dramatic impact this type of music has had on today’s media as we know it. Hip-hop influences lifestyles and cultures everywhere. The hip-hop culture has had a major impact on today’s society. This impact also includes the young generation fashion, slang, and even some people’s lifestyle.
These days it is definitely not uncommon to tune into pop centered radio station and find yourself listening to a new hip-hop single. For the most part the changes of hip-hop in the media began in the late 90’s. Before hip-hops popularity sky rocked practically the only television channel to play the music was BET. With the rise of popular songs from hip-hop artist who began there fame on BET network, this genre has dominated all other music genres in this generation and rose to the top. Not only have these changes been evident in the music business, there obvious everywhere in the media. Take for instance the rise of television series whose focus can be linked to hip-hip inspiration. Hip-hop music has made its way into all music-focused channels such as; MTV and VH1. Television shows like Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew and P Diddy’s Making the Band succeeded with great viewer rates and both went on to have four seasons.
There has most definitely been lots criticism on the style of hip-hop culture. However with time we are beginning to see these changes being accepted. The rhythm of hip-hop certainly brought about a new social manner to young people of this generation including their choice of fashion style. It’s apparent now that everyone has adapted to putting their hats on backwards or sideways. Although this trend is probably the most preferred among young society it doesn’t stop there. "Style isn't what you wear, it's how you wear it." You could say this is one theme the hip-hop culture focused on in the 80’s and 90’s with the mixed matched style of baggy sweats with one pant leg up and the other down. Not to mention nearly every rapper was dressed strictly in neon colors always equipped with the retro glasses. However this generation’s hip-hop style has mostly taken a more expensive outlook. With fame and money being the major focus for fashion, hip-hop culture has drastically changed.
