In the beginning hip-hop was very rarely given a chance, with the exception of the modern youth who grew with the beats and the rhythm of the music. Now hip-hop music is definitely the most popular among my generation. At first there was lots of controversy over the hip hop that began in the 1990’s and inappropriate lyrics that influenced bad behavior. However most of this was evident in the gangsta raps, today I think we see that hip-hop has spread into the mainstream of our music charts and definitely became the favored genre. In the music business it’s common for an artist to combine hip-hop beats into their songs helping their song become more popular. The whole purpose of this was to explain to you how far hip-hop has come since the beginning, and what social impact it has had on my generation. Now that I’ve explained the journey of the music, I want to let you in on how hip-hop affected my life. Just like every other parent in America when I was caught listening to Busta Rhymes new single I was immediately told to turn that junk off. Mom and Dad took my choice of music extremely beyond the limit. While other parents simply turned down the volume or confiscated the CD, my parents went to the next level. Having a talk with me about why I enjoyed this type of music and if I realized why they didn’t believe I should listen to it. Back then I didn’t care about what was being said in the songs I listen to, I just enjoyed the music and the beats behind the lyrics. Today I realize that those beats are what inspired me to join the dance team. Okay so you’re probably thinking big deal you joined the dance team! However this was a big deal, actually a tremendous deal because not only was I finally participating in something, but I was also starting a new beginning. Because when I said joining the dance team I failed to mention that first I had to put one together.
