neighbors, and a few people they hadn’t even meet volunteered to come each day and help with the feedings which was very helpful, but left their home invaded.  The days go by and there is no stopping.  “You can prepare for all of the physical aspects of having twins, but there’s no way to prepare for the emotional and mental side of it,” (Good, Dan).  The constant care for all eight children was a lot to bear for a young couple but they did their best while putting their husband and wife time on hold.  “Parents have to take care of themselves, too,” “Without that, the relationship can get lost” (Good, Dan).  As months go by the family barely managing to pay their bills and keep the babies in diapers adds to the already overwhelming stress.  Kate does her best but knows deep down that things can’t keep going in this downward direction.  Kate keeps family and friends on hand in the time of need and keeps her faith in God, hoping that soon things would turn around.

The Gosselin family finally get their break when TLC offers them a spot on reality television.  They would have a steady income just for being their selves, while letting people watch their daily routines.  The show “Jon and Kate Plus 8” became a Monday night hit.  Having the advantages now to take their eight children on many adventures and to see the world was a great opportunity.  With all the good that we see being done we also see normal couple disputes.  “Allowing cameras to catch their unscripted bickering—along with tender moments-endeared them to millions of viewers over the shows first four seasons.  Kate said at the time, “People would see us arguing, and they say ‘When will Kate and Jon split up?’ Well, never.  He’s the only one who’s been by my side through all of this” (Cohen, Bari Nan).  Jon and Kate became so popular that people were dressing up like them on Halloween; Kate’s short hair that had spikes in the back became a trend that everyone wanted also.  The kids are so cute that we love watching them grow and they to become famous.  The family doesn’t mind the attention they get at first but as time goes by the paparazzi is observing them at every angle possible.

As the show advanced in the seasons, friends and relatives were pushed to the show’s sidelines.  Regular characters such as Kate Gosselin’s brother, Kevin Kreider, and his wife, Jodi, disappeared from “Jon & Kate plus 8.”  Bell thinks the fame didn’t change the Gosselins, as much as it isolated them.

“What Jon and Kate did was slowly unplug from their church and family and friends as their fame and fortune grew,” Bell said.
